Chelsea FC commission EPIC Risk Management to work with U/16, U18 and U/23 level players.
Following the high-profile work that EPIC Risk Management have been doing within professional rugby union and professional cricket over the last 12 months, Chelsea FC have this month commissioned them to deliver gambling awareness education to their elite academy squads at under 16, under 18 and under 23 level.
Commenting on the work to be completed, Paul Buck, CEO. EPIC Risk Management stated;
‘Professional athletes are at least three times more likely to be problematic gamblers than the general population*. Young elite footballers are well paid, have time on their hands and are naturally very competitive. They don’t like to lose and if they do lose then they will chase those losses.
We have been very impressed with the awareness and pro-activity around this issue that Chelsea have shown and we look forward to working with them to ensure their young players make informed choices around gambling and go on to have fantastic careers.’
In 2016, EPIC completed what is believed to be the largest and most penetrative gambling education and awareness programme ever done in World sport in partnership with the Rugby Players Association and with the support of the Rugby Football Union and the AVIVA Premiership. They saw over 610 professional rugby players and this work has now spread to Rugby Players Ireland in May 2017. In addition, EPIC are currently touring all 18 professional cricket counties in partnership with the Professional Cricketers Association and funded by England cricket legend Graham Gooch.
