Paul Buck

Founder & Group CEO

After overcoming a pathological gambling disorder Paul founded EPIC Risk Management (EPIC) in 2014. Having experienced the devastating effects first hand, he wanted to use his experience and knowledge to prevent gambling related harm in the workplace.

Drawing on his 12 years of experience within financial services, he is able to offer his clients a crucial insight into the hidden risks they face, while offering pragmatic and innovative solutions.

Paul regularly makes media appearances to discuss the financial, legal and regulatory risks that problem gambling can have within the workplace, and is now recognised as the industry’s leading gambling harm minimisation expert.

Gambling completely ruined Mark’s sports career and he is now looking to help prevent others from following the same path.

Tony O'Reilly

Tony O'Reilly

Business Development (Ireland)

Tony heads up Business Development for EPIC in Ireland. In June 2011, Tony’s gambling problem came to light when it was discovered that he had stolen €1.75 million from An Post to fuel his gambling addiction whilst working as a Branch Manager. As a result, he served 3 years in Prison. While serving his sentence he re-educated, re-invented himself and trained as an addiction counsellor.

In March 2018, 'Tony10' was published by Gill books. It is co-written by Tony and tells the story of his gambling addiction, highlighting how a €1 bet led to a turnover of over 10 million in his online account. He hopes that his story will help start a much needed national conversation about Ireland’s gambling problem. His proceeds of the book are going to charity to further help people who are struggling.

Tony’s passion lies in the area of problem gambling education, awareness and harm minimisation and his intention is to use his personal and professional experience to make gambling safer for others. Ireland has the highest online losses per capita anywhere in the world and EPIC's expansion into Ireland is an important step in our mission to ‘take the problem out of gambling’.

Scott Davis

Scott Davies

Scott is now using his experiences as the newest member of EPIC's team - predominantly across the 72 clubs of the English Football League (EFL) and other sports.

Patrick Foster EPIC Risk Management

Patrick Foster

Business Development (Education)

Patrick is a former professional cricketer, insurance broker and independent school teacher whose life was torn to shreds by his pathological gambling addiction.Despite his idyllic upbringing and success as a youngster, Patrick's life become monopolised by gambling from his University days onwards as he found making the transition from playing sport and into the real world a huge challenge. His gambling addiction brought him to the verge of taking his own life in March 2018.

The mist has lifted and he has gained some insight into the nature of the condition that was keeping him so unsettled for such a long time and the impact it has had on his life and that of his family.

A need has developed within him to share his journey with young people and their parents and who may be experiencing similar difficulties and is excited at the prospect of what lies ahead.

He is grateful for the opportunity to fracture some of the isolation that comes all too often with gambling addiction and many others manifestations of addictions.

The first step in change is acknowledging that there is a problem, and what that problem is.

Issues around gambling and low-self-esteem are often so ingrained that we are not even consciously aware how they shape who we are and how we see ourselves.

This is why he believes it is important to share his story and experience as this can provide the identification needed in order to change and inspiring people to have the courage and confidence to reach out for help.

Some words from our clients

We’d like to thank and recommend the guys at EPIC. Both players and staff walked out of the workshop with an insight and understanding into the scale of gambling addiction. The instant impact which the stories carried, backed up by the questions asked are definitely a recipe for a positive approach to how this is managed within the CFC academy. We all look forward to working with you again next season (May 2017)
