EPIC Comment: Gambling Act Review

EPIC Risk Management welcome the news that Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), has confirmed that the review of the 2005 Gambling Act will be launched today.

The review is expected to result in the biggest reform of UK gambling laws in a generation. Taking control of the review, DCMS has prioritised consumer safeguards, advertising standards, online protections and the role of the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) to govern the UK gambling sector.

We believe that affordability, marketing and protecting children should be key aspects of this review and we will be providing our research and findings for the call to evidence. We will also the stressing the importance of a public health approach to education and prevention, which must always be appropriate, impactful and stress the multi responsibility of gambling disorder and not just the responsibility of the individual.”
